Grande Lakes hires new head pro

Kelly Sheehan-Gay was promoted to head golf professional at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando.

Orlando, Fla. – Grande Lakes Orlando promoted Kelly Sheehan-Gay to head golf professional of The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando. Sheehan-Gay, the only dual LPGA and PGA member in The Ritz-Carlton Golf division, was previously the golf club’s tournament coordinator and golf shop manager.

As head golf professional Sheehan-Gay will oversee the golf club’s day-to-day operations, including tournament operations, merchandising and staffing. She is responsible for ensuring and maintaining the quality of the golf club and its programs.

“Kelly has been instrumental in the success of The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, and has led the staff in creating the type of service excellence that we have set here to provide the best golf experience for our guests,” says golf director Jim Richerson. “We are very excited to announce her very well-deserved promotion.”

Sheehan-Gay has been with The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club since pre-opening in April 2003 and has more than 10 years of golf industry experience, both managing and participating in several golf tournaments. Prior to joining The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, she was assistant golf professional/instructor at The Faldo Golf Institute by Marriott for three years, where she taught golf lessons and was responsible for pro shop operations.  Sheehan-Gay played collegiate golf at Florida Southern College and was a two-time All-American and participated in three National Collegiate Athletics Association Championships.

In addition to the promotion to head golf professional, Sheehan-Gay is especially excited about the golf club’s women’s golf program.

“Our 18-hole Greg Norman-designed championship golf course is ideal for women as it offers multiple sets of tees and allows for few forced carries,” says Sheehan-Gay. “We also have LPGA and PGA professionals on staff as well as female caddies to accompany women golfers throughout their round of golf. And after a long day of golf, the ladies can relax at our Ritz-Carlton Spa.”

Situated at the headwaters of the Florida Everglades, The Ritz-Carlton golf course offers two distinct golf settings in an 18-hole round. Several holes are routed through pristine areas where preserved wetlands and natural woodlands dominate the experience. By contrast, the three dynamic finishing holes weave alongside the two towering hotels that make up the resort, the 584-room Ritz-Carlton and the 1,000-room JW Marriott.
