GolfLinx launches at Golf Industry Show

The company presents a turf water management solution.

GolfLinx launched its integrated turf water management solution at the Golf Industry Show in Anaheim, Calif. The GolfLinx turf water management solution is an innovative and cost effective system that manages water resources more effectively for the golf course industry.

The all-in-one solution gives golf superintendents a 3D view of the golf course’s sub-turf soil in order to monitor moisture content and weather conditions, then uses the latest software to determine how much water is required at all points of the golf course. The results of the GolfLinx solution include water savings, reduced pumping costs, stronger root growth, less mowing time, better turf performance, more effective irrigation and cost savings.

“Golf course superintendents have traditionally used a calendar-schedule approach for their water maintenance which ultimately leads to inefficiencies and increased associated expenses,” said Nigel Hennessy, c.e.o. of GolfLinx. “GolfLinx has revolutionized this process by empowering golf course superintendents and greenskeepers with the information they need to water only when the course actually requires it, helping to conserve water, improve turf quality and significantly decreasing costs.”

With the average 18-hole golf course consuming close to seven Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of water each week, golf course owners are under pressure from government regulators and environmentalists to conserve this natural resource while ensuring the highest quality turf for members and cost-efficiency for golf course owners.  The GolfLinx solution reduces water consumption of golf courses by at least 30 percent, eliminating the need to transport an estimated 1.3 million additional gallons of water every month and related energy costs.

GolfLinx has essentially changed the dynamic of the relationship with water management, giving the power back to golf course superintendents to decide when, where and how much watering is required for maximum results in turf quality and avoiding unnecessary water and other maintenance expenses.

Mr. Hennessy has also enlisted experienced golf industry experts for GolfLinx’ Advisory Board including former Australian Open champion and leading golf course designer Bruce Devlin who is a brand ambassador and advocate of the GolfLinx solution.

“Water has become such an important issue when building golf courses that some developers are being denied permits to build because they cannot supply sufficient water for the golf course,” said Devlin.  “GolfLinx can help golf course superintendents and designers best manage their water resources and grow better turf grass cost-effectively.”

The GolfLinx solution is based on the successful AquaSpy product suite, which measures and monitors soil moisture and weather around a golf course.  The timely data can then be uploaded to a personal computer or a PDA. The GolfLinx solution is available in a wide range of options including one, three, nine and the Premium eighteen hole package as well as extra hole packages. These packages have individually tailored design and installation solutions to meet specific course requirements.

The suite of AquaSpy products includes:

  • AquaSpy Turf Probe– specifically designed to provide accurate, multi-level soil moisture measurement for turf and shallow rooted plants.  The AquaSpy™ Turf Probe is ideal for monitoring the effects of surface watering across the whole soil profile
  • MetSpy Weather Station – a state-of-the-art monitoring device which provides affordable, intelligent weather monitoring.  The advanced ultrasonic components have no moving parts for extended life and improved reliability
  • AquaSpy Data Node– an advanced logger with a large storage capacity and a choice of manual data transfer options.  Data is downloaded to PC either by direct cable connection or via PDA (by infrared or USB cable) for interpretation with the AquaSpy Viewer software
  • AquaSpy Radio Node – utilizes the base technology of the AquaSpy Data Node, with the added feature of a radio controller which enables data to be transferred wirelessly to an AquaSpy Radio Receiver and then automatically uploaded to the PC
  • AquaSpy Sensor – a revolutionary single soil moisture sensor utilizing the advanced capacitance technology of the AquaSpy Turf Probe
  • AquaSpyViewer – a free data management package providing data transfer solutions and data analysis software to enable collection and viewing of information to make informed irrigation decisions
