Hopkinton, R.I. – There are a multitude of golf courses, miniature golf ranges and golf schools that dot New England’s southern-most states, but nothing like the all-inclusive Hopkinton Golf Pavilion that is scheduled to open in the spring of 2006.

According to Joseph Rando, president of Land Development – Northeast, Inc., which owns 50 percent of the project, the Golf Pavilion is expected to have wide appeal.
“By mixing a driving range and learning center with a family friendly restaurant & sports bar and mini-golf, we capture a whole spectrum of potential customers, from serious golfers and golf students to families, young couples and highway travelers,” Rando says. “Our goal is for each element of the Pavilion to be the best of its kind in the market, and to offer added value to each visitor.”
All-Turf Driving Range
The all-turf, fully-irrigated driving tee will be 40-yards deep, allowing the area where balls are hit to be relocated and repaired over the season as the turf becomes damaged. The range is 350 yards long with nine target areas; the tee, which will be located just off the outdoor dining area, will be able to accommodate up to 80 golfers at one time. Adjacent to the tee area will be a practice putting green available to driving range customers.
Golf Learning Center
The Golf Learning Center will consist of a two-tier tee elevated 50 to 60 feet above the fairway, a par 3 practice hole, a chipping area and a putting green where golfers can practice all aspects of the game, including fairway bunkers, side hill lies and high grass. The site, located at the opposite end of the property from the driving range and restaurant, also will include a classroom building.
Golf Academy
The Golf Academy will feature golf instructors for both individuals and group lessons. Instruction will take place at the Golf Learning Center as well as on the driving range. The Hopkinton Golf Pavilion has signed a letter of intent with Ben Jackson’s New England Golf Academy to operate the Golf Academy.
Miniature Golf
The miniature golf area is designed for maximum impact with scaled-down replicas of ancient historic monuments depicting the theme, Around the World in 18 Holes. This recreational component of the Golf Pavilion will be located adjacent to the restaurant.
Restaurant & Sports Bar
The restaurant & sports bar will be a quick-serve type restaurant with comfortable décor and atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor patio seating will offer a view overlooking the driving range.
“The Hopkinton Golf Pavilion will combine some of the best features of the most exclusive private golf courses with mini golf and a restaurant that the entire family can enjoy and afford, Rando says.”
Rhode Island, the nation’s smallest state, has 16 private and 32 public golf courses. The state hosts more than 24 major golf tournaments each year; including the U.S. Women’s Open Championship to be played in Newport in 2006.
