Golf Links announced that its president and owner, Jerry Lemons, was elected as a member in the American Society of Golf Course Architects.
Lemons has been active in golf course design since 1984 and has designed courses around the globe. His firm is currently designing the Rarity Club in Jasper, Tenn., with golfing legend Lee Trevino.
His election comes after a review by the membership and board of governors of ASGCA of all of Lemons' work and past business relationships. Membership into ASGCA requires a stringent review of the designers’ skills, and accountability to their clients and code of ethics.
“This is a lifelong dream,” Lemons says. “I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the most influential and prestigious group in all of golf.
“We have the challenge and opportunity to address the declining rounds of golf that we have seen in the US in the last few years," he continues. "In order to increase rounds at some facilities, more courses need to promote a three and a half to four hour round of golf. To do this, courses must be more player-friendly, shorter and designed easier for average players and have reduced maintenance budgets. Most golfers just do not want an expensive six hour round of golf. It is just as important that while accomplishing these goals, our courses also must co-exist in harmony with the environment.”
