Golf course rounds auctioned on Web site

Proceeds of rounds4research.com will benefit turfgrass research programs at Clemson University and North Carolina State University

This spring sees the launch of an innovative online public auction of close to 1,000 golf rounds in the Carolinas and beyond to benefit the golf industry. With a few clicks of their mouse at Rounds4Research.com golfers will be able to secure tee-times at some of the nation’s highest ranked and most exclusive courses. Proceeds will benefit turfgrass research programs at Clemson University and North Carolina State University. Pinehurst No. 2 and Harbour Town Golf Links are on offer, as are some of the most prestigious private courses in the region including Long Cove Club, Cape Fear Country Club and Yeamans Hall Club. The Rounds4Research.com auction runs April 19 to May 6 and is a project of the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association.

“These universities perform world-class research that underpins the health and the future of the golf industry in our region which carries an annual economic benefit upwards of $5-billion,” says Rounds4Research.com creator, Tim Kreger, who is programs director with the Carolinas GCSA. “Like so much else in today’s economic climate, these programs are struggling for funding. Rounds4Research.com gives the ultimate beneficiary of that research – the golfer – the chance to benefit golf and their game at the same time.”

The auction is timed to coincide with two of the biggest events on the annual Carolinas golf calendar, the PGA Tour’s Verizon Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, S.C and the Wachovia Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. This timing also lends itself to wonderful gift purchases for Father’s Day, which falls on June 21 this year. Potential bidders can go online now to explore the list of available courses and register for a reminder email in advance of the auction opening.
