Revenue at Water's Edge municipal golf course has shrunk during the last two years, so the Village Board is asking the course's management company to reverse that trend through an aggressive marketing campaign and more frequent use of dining facilities in the clubhouse.
Steve Dell of Kemper Management has attributed the $1.9 million drop to a struggling industry that leaves golfers with less money to spend on the game.
New golfers are harder to find as well, he said.
But with $10.3 million in outstanding debt and two years of not meeting revenue projections, some trustees are demanding more from the company.
"Kemper is paid $100,000 for management," said Trustee Mary Rhein. "I expect you to come back to us with a plan to improve the situation."
Kemper recently submitted a preliminary budget that shows a reduction in course maintenance staff and a projected $50,000 increase in food and beverage sales, Dell said. In addition, the company plans to submit a marketing plan that will stimulate new events and activities at Water's Edge throughout the year.
