Groundbreaking at Pompano Beach

Ceremony kicks off Greg Norman redesign of the Pines Golf Course.

A standing-room-only crowd of residents and community leaders from the city of Pompano Beach were on hand Thursday for a site visit and groundbreaking ceremony to commence Greg Norman’s redesign of the City’s Pines Golf Course. The project, which will be Greg Norman’s first design at a municipal golf course is on the fast track and scheduled to be completed and re-opened in November 2012.

Norman arrived hours prior to the groundbreaking in order to survey the initial work on the first five holes of the course where construction is already underway. He could be seen walking the holes with his design team and the construction crew who would be responsible for putting his ideas in the ground.

After completing his site inspection, Norman made his way to the clubhouse for the official groundbreaking ceremony where he lifted a shovel with the city commissioners and the Mayor of Pompano Beach.

“This project is special to me," says Norman. "I wouldn’t be here today if I didn't have access to public golf facilities when I was growing up. This is the heartbeat of golf right here. Working with municipalities to help them improve their golf offerings is a great way to help grow the game of golf."
