Thank god for Outlook.
If it wasn't for Outlook there's no way I could keep track of the (get ready for this) 26 meetings, press events, booth visits and receptions I have on my schedule today. I will almost certainly miss a couple of things and its 100% likely I'll arrive late for a couple of meetings, but it won't be for lack of trying. Why?
Because I LOVE this stinkin show and today is my favorite day of the year...opening day of friendship season. Today I get to shake hands with or do the "awkward man hug" thing with a couple hundred of my best and oldest friends. I get to reconnect with good folks whose lives are permanently joined to mine because we've bonded through this crazy business.
Yes, business will be conducted. I'll have serious meetings with clients, learn about new technologies and try to convince them that GCI is the right partner for their marketing dollars. But mainly it's a chance for reunion with my brothers and sisters.
After all, that's what this is...an annual reunion of Phi Kappa Turf, the best fraternity in the world. If you're a brother or sister in Phi Kappa Turf, you know exactly what I mean. We share an unbreakable bond because we've been through the hazing of crazy times, crazy weather, crazy golfers and crazy bosses. The fraternity of turf is a strong and wonderful thing that helps defend us against all forms of insanity.
So, today, let's celebrate our reunion. Let's swap lies and give each other good-natured grief. Let's catch up about families and mutual friends and all the beautiful things in our lives. Let's bitch about our problems and crow about our achievements. Let's revel in the brotherhood (and sisterhood) of Phi Kappa Turf because it makes us stronger, better and more passionate than any other community in the world.
I hope you enjoy the best day of the year. I know I will. Now I gotta go because I'm late for a meeting!
