Golf Course Industry, and its parent company, GIE Media, the leading media company serving the lawn and landscape, golf course, nursery, greenhouse and garden center markets, has established a fund to support academic scholarships for outstanding college students focused on leading in the green industry.
GIE Media is giving away two $2,500 scholarships, including the Stanley Zontek Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship, an unrestricted grant, supports a turf student with a passion for the game. Selection criteria include academic performance, advisor/superintendent recommendations and an essay about why the student is passionate about a career as a superintendent.
The award honors Stanley J. Zontek, the former director of the USGA Green Section’s Mid-Atlantic Region. Zontek died after suffering a heart attack at age 63 in 2012. Zontek, who joined the USGA in 1971, was the organization’s longest-tenured employee at the time of his death.
Click here to download the application. Please print off and fill out the form completely, then mail it to Chuck Bowen, Lawn & Landscape, 5811 Canal Rd., Valley View, OH 44125. Deadline to apply is April 28.
To be eligible for an academic scholarship, you must be enrolled at a recognized two- or four-year college or university working toward a degree in turfgrass science, horticulture, environmental science or other field related to a segment of the green industry.
