TopDown Conservation has unveiled the newest product under its web-based TurfManager software solution, Sensing Manager, which allows remote sensing of soil conditions at an unlimited number of sites and with any manufacturer’s soil sensor. Sensors placed in the soil at desired depths (based on soil conditions) transmit data for easy accessibility to superintendents and other turf managers.
“This technology is an added tool for greater water-use-efficiency practices, a healthy rhizome, and overall sustainability,” says Robert F. Criste, Senior Vice President of TopDown Conservation. “Monitoring soil moisture conditions tends to validate and confirm the superintendent’s irrigation management decisions. Sensing Manager is useful whether you are applying a control/fertility product to the prescribed or desired depth, making decisions related to running irrigation cycles to irrigate ‘deep and infrequent,’ or deciding when to irrigate after a rain event,” adds Criste.
The product is being tested in the field by a parks and recreation department in the southeast, as well as under consideration by a number of golf courses along the eastern seaboard.
TurfManager and its accompanying products will debut at next week’s (Feb. 9-10) Golf Industry Show (booth #660) in Orlando. In addition to Sensing Manager, TurfManager product solutions include Records Manager, Asset Manager and Maintenance Manager. Together, these programs aid in measuring and quantifying costs for containment and sustainability programs, resulting in greater transparency and lower operational costs. TopDown Conservation will offer demonstrations of TurfManager every two hours at the Golf Industry Show.
