Research grants from the GCSAA are supporting two new research projects at universities across the country beginning in 2024. The projects will be funded through the GCSAA Foundation research endowments.
The projects, which were selected by a committee that included two members of the GCSAA board of directors, superintendents, university researchers and other professional scientists, will receive up to $100,000 from a GCSAA Foundation block grant. GCSAA recently increased its funding maximum to better support university research projects.
The following two research projects are funded for a period of two years:
- “Nematode Resistance Management on Golf Course Turf” by Dr. William T. Crow, University of Florida
- “Implementation of a Continuous Soil Surfactant Program and Implications for Preemergence Herbicide Persistence on Golf Courses” by Dr. Becky Bowling, University of Tennessee, and Dr. Travis W. Gannon, NC State University
There are now 13 ongoing research projects funded by GCSAA, which equate to more than $500,000 in funding for applied turfgrass research.
GCSAA’s research provides solutions to issues golf course superintendents face with the management of their facilities. Funding for the research comes to GCSAA through the Foundation and the generosity of its donors. Research within the golf course industry significantly contributes to the industry’s innovation as well as the leadership and professionalism of the superintendents.
