Bob Healey has been chosen as this year’s Distinguished Service Award recipient by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of New England. Healey received the award, which is the association’s highest honor, at the annual meeting Jan. 12.
Healey, the owner of Irrigation Management and Services, has been a steadfast supporter of the GCSANE and its activities for over 25 years. As a member of the board of directors, he represented the friend and affiliate members as their liaison to the board. He is an active member of the scholarship and benevolence committee and has devoted countless hours to the annual tournament held to raise funds for scholarships and benevolent aid for members and their families.
Healey also has served as chairman of the bylaws committee and the committee and chairman of the association’s 75th year anniversary celebration and gathered photos and historical information shared with event attendees. He currently serves the Town of Natick, Mass., as a town meeting member and a member of the town’s Sassamon Trace Golf Course advisory committee. He also contributes to the Massachusetts golf community by serving as a volunteer on the Massachusetts Golf Association's course rating team.
“Never in my 42 years as a member of GCSANE have I seen any member work harder for our association,” Mike Hermanson said.
In other news, the GCSANE elected its officers and directors at the annual meeting: David W Johnson of Wianno Club, President; Jeff Urquhart of Milton-Hoosic Club, Vice President; Donald D’Errico of Spring Valley Country Club, Secretary/Treasurer; David Stowe, CGCS of Newton Commonwealth Golf, Director; Peter J Rappoccio, CGCS of Concord Country Club, Director; Ed Downing of New England Specialty Soils, Director; John Ponti of Nehoiden Golf Club, Director; Brian F Skinner, CGCS of Bellevue Golf Club, Director; Michael Luccini, CGCS of Franklin Country Club will serve as Past President.
