The United States Golf Association has appointed Thomas C. Pagel as Director, Rules of Golf. Pagel's primary responsibility will be to coordinate the Rules-writing efforts of the USGA Rules of Golf Committee. His appointment is effective January 1, 2011.
Pagel joins the USGA from the Utah Golf Association, where he served as executive director for the past two years, overseeing all aspects of membership and championship administration.
He previously worked for the Colorado Golf Association, first as assistant director of rules and competitions, then as assistant executive director. Pagel has served as a Rules official at several USGA championships, including the 2010 U.S. Senior Open and the 2008 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.
Pagel earned a bachelor of science in business administration from Colorado State University, and is currently a master’s degree candidate at the University of Utah.
