Wednesday……third day….
Wednesday morning started off with a packed house for the GCSAA Prayer Breakfast. This is a popular spot to meet and attend a non-denominational service. Several songs of praise were sung and we heard from a few speakers. David Tyree was the featured speaker. He had an outstanding career as a wide receiver for the NY Giants and has since committed his life to sharing the gospel. Overall the prayer breakfast is super event and hope others will consider it at a future GIS.
As a past president of GCSAA I attended a meeting of the old guard with the current board and we had a nice exchange of information about GCSAA and also a request for feedback on various programs.
The Friends of the Association is a nice gathering of many golf industry leaders across the globe. Current and former leaders met for conversation and lunch and a good time was had by all.
GCSAA conducted some mock interviews for recent turf grads. I had the pleasure of interviewing a young man for about an hour and ran him through the paces of the typical interview. Nice to see how well prepared some of the next generation are for the first steps of their careers.
Wednesday night brings the many functions and social engagements around Las Vegas. Started the evening at the Hard Rock Café with my friends from the Midwest Association of Golf Course Superintendents. Then it was off to the California Room at the Las Vegas Country Club. Closed out the night with the Michigan Room and enjoyed the sounds of the Bronks Bros. with GCSAA member and drummer, John Fulling!
In the small world category……I am riding in the elevator with a dear friend in Frank Dobie and see that we are on the same floor in the LVH. As we walk down the hallway, we are not only on the same floor but have rooms next to each other. So what are the chances of me having a room next to the Supt. I worked for 39 years ago at Sharon Golf Club? Yes, it is a small world!
