Black Brook goose herder Hallie on the mend

Course dog hit by errant ball, shatters leg.

Sept. 16 started out as an ordinary day at work for Hallie the border collie.

She was sniffing around behind a hedge row at Black Brook Golf Course in Mentor prior to accompanying her handler, assistant greens superintendent John Shemitz, while he did some mowing around the first tee.

What happened next was a first in her seven-plus years of chasing geese off the course.

A golfer was teeing off and hit a low hook that found her back, right leg, shattering it. After being rushed to a veterinarian, the leg was surgically repaired and stitched up.
