'New lease on life' for municipal golf course

MANCHESTER, Conn. — A 10-year lease agreement with the town that began this month is "a new lease on life" for operators of the municipal golf course, the facility's superintendent said Monday.

"It's not the golf course vs. the town; it's the town and the golf course working together," Manchester Country Club Superintendent Matt Gomez said.

The relationship has been shaky and confrontational. The club defaulted on its lease last year after failing to pay rent, and the town's board of directors sought bids from other course operators. In the end, the board voted 8-1 in September to stick with the current operators.
