Inverrary Country Club celebrates 40th anniversary

Club recently compted $1 million in renovations.

This month Inverrary Country Club celebrates the 40th Anniversary of its legendary East Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and site of 15 PGA and LPGA tournaments.  Opened in 1970, Inverrary Country Club was home to the Jackie Gleason Inverrary Classic from 1972 to 1980 and the Honda Inverrary Classic in 1982 and 1983.

Inverrary hosted several other prestigious PGA and LPGA events between 1976 and 1992 including the Tournament Players Championship, the American Motors Inverrary Classic and the Phar-Mor Classic. Golf legends Jack Nicklaus, Johhny Miller, Lee Trevino, Tom Kite, Hale Irwin and Tom Weiskopf are among the greats who have walked the fairways and won PGA championships on Inverrary’s signature East Course.

Inverrary’s story is not merely one of the past though, and in advance of the 40th Anniversary, Inverrary completed more than one million dollars in renovations.  Because of these renovations, Inverrary has not only returned the East Course to its former celebrated condition, but also improved every aspect of the Club and the experience it offers members and guests.  Today Inverrary, which has a second Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed course – the West Course, boasts an upgraded pro shop and locker rooms, a members-only cigar room, the Champions Grille, a completely renovated driving range lit for night use, a new fleet of E-Z Go RXV gas carts and the best greens in South Florida.

“There is an unspoken aura at Inverrary from the players who walked the East Course like Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino and Tom Kit that the guests can feel their presence of when they are here,” said Nick Fortunato, General Manager of Inverrary Country Club. “We are looking forward to surpassing where Inverrary was in its glory days because the facilities are in better shape now than when the legends walked the fairways here on the East Course over thirty years ago.”

Both courses feature Bermuda Grass and enhanced landscape design with the 201-yard 7th hole of the East Course frequently described as one of the best par threes in the state of Florida.   With 18 holes on its premier championship East Course, and the additional 18 holes on the shorter West Course, Inverrary allows golfers of all skill levels to enjoy satisfying play.

“We are committed to elevating not only the club, but the entire surrounding community to its former stature,” asserts Jordon Ross, Inverrary Country Club’s Managing Partner.  “With the cooperation of the residents of Inverrary, we hope to succeed, to everyone’s advantage in the immediate future.”
