Chris Vincent, CGCS, is the superintendent at The Reserve at Lake Keowee in northwest South Carolina. He’s also a husband, father, golfer and outdoorsman. And now he can add video star and producer to his list of accomplishments.
Vincent won the Daconil Action Fungicide Tough Turf Video Contest sponsored by Syngenta with his entertaining yet educational short video about the benefits of Daconil Action fungicide.
“We’re in the heart of the transition zone so we struggle during the hot summers to maintain our bentgrass greens along with our bermudagrass fairways,” Vincent said. “This summer, however, the unique formulation of Daconil Action was tough enough to help our turf survive anything.”

The contest was open to superintendents and assistant superintendents, who were asked to submit a short video about Daconil Action fungicide, why they like it, how it works and/or what they think it will do for their courses. Videos were judged on creativity and relevance to the “tough turf” theme.
“We were impressed with the creative entries from superintendents,” said Stephanie Schwenke, golf market manager, Syngenta. “They really took the ‘tough turf’ theme to a new level, had fun with the contest and showcased their excitement for Daconil Action fungicide.”
As part of the grand prize, Vincent won a trip for two to San Francisco. “It will be exciting to see the beauty of that part of California,” he said. “My first thought was to attend a 49ers game…but my wife is thinking wine tasting.”
He also won an automatic seat at the Syngenta Business Institute, an executive business management and leadership course at Wake Forest University School of Business this December. He is looking forward to furthering his training there and being able to contribute even more to The Reserve at Lake Keowee, which is a private, 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. His video will be showcased at the Syngenta booth during the Golf Industry Show in San Diego in February.
“I’ve been a big fan of Syngenta for a long time, and an avid user of Daconil fungicide, so I was excited to try Daconil Action,” Vincent added. “Its new benefit of helping protect turf is very beneficial. I heard about the video contest and thought it would be fun and a creative way to get that message across.”
Daconil Action combines the proven benefits of Daconil fungicide with acibenzolar-s-methyl, a turf protein booster. It provides enhanced disease control of a broad spectrum of diseases and increases tolerance to environmental stresses like drought for overall turf health.
William Brown, Hartefeld National in Avondale, Pa., and Mike Bremmer, Wisconsin Club in Milwaukee, Wisc., received honorable mentions for their videos and each won a $300 Visa gift card. Click the above links to view their videos.
