| Australia’s Smart Approved WaterMark program recently honored Rain Bird’s ESP-LX Series Modular Controller product line as a finalist in the commercial division of its 2011 Product of the Year Awards. The ESP-LX Series includes the ESP-LXD Controller for two-wire decoder-based irrigation systems and the ESP-LXME for traditionally-wired systems. An independent assessment panel selected this year’s consumer and commercial product finalists from Smart Approved WaterMark’s growing list of certified, water-efficient products. Those products chosen as finalists demonstrated high levels of innovation, marketability, sustainability and design excellence. According to Doug Callison, Rain Bird senior product manager for commercial controllers, the flexibility and intuitiveness built into the ESP-LX Series makes it uniquely qualified for this honor. “The ESP-LX Series Controllers combine modularity with advanced water management,” Callison said. “Their flexibility makes it possible for irrigation professionals to design and build control systems that give their commercial clients the features they want now with the option of adding more functionality in the future. These controllers provide a truly customized solution that saves water, time and money.” A non-profit organization, Australia’s Smart Approved WaterMark is setting an international standard for the identification of water-saving products and services that can be used in and around homes and businesses. Manufacturers of water-related products sold in Australia can apply to have their products reviewed by a panel of independent technical experts. This panel then evaluates each product based on certain criteria related to water savings, environmental sustainability and adherence to product regulations and standards. After being approved for certification, products are labeled with the Smart Approved WaterMark symbol designating them as water-efficient. In addition to the ESP-LX Series, a number of other Rain Bird products have also achieved Smart Approved WaterMark certification, including the SMRT-Y Soil Moisture Sensor, 5000 PRS Series Rotors, 1800 Series Sprays, Maxicom2 Central Control System, WR2 Wireless Rain/Freeze Sensor and Rotary Nozzles.
