West Va. golf group honors Mason's Roush

Roush, owner and superintendent of Riverside Golf Club, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the West Virginia Golf Course Superintendents Association.

MASON, W.Va. -- Gary Roush, owner and superintendent of Riverside Golf Club, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the West Virginia Golf Course Superintendents Association at its dinner Tuesday in Morgantown.

Roush was a building contractor when he joined the WVGSA in 1974. In 1976, Roush expanded Riverside to 18 holes. Roush later got interested in rules and sportsmanship. He joined the West Virginia Golf Association's executive committee in 1996 and USGA committee in 1998 with ties to the U.S. Public Links Championship.

Roush has donated the use of his course to the WVGA for the State Am qualifier, U.S. Public Links qualifier, Top Flite Jour Tour, West Virginia Senior Series and Riverside Amateur (started in 1972).

In 2000, Roush renovated the clubhouse, pro shop and grill. In 2007, Roush and his crew constructed two new holes with a 3-acre lake and added a driving range, too.

Roush, who is semi-retired, and wife Mary have two sons, Ty, who is a pro, and Mitch, who is now course superintendent.
