| Howard Fertilizer and Chemical Company Inc. announces construction on a new, dry fertilizer plant in Lake Placid, Fla. The company has purchased Oakley Brothers' packing plant on Highway 70, providing Howard an opportunity to offer operations closer to citrus- and farm-growing areas in Florida. "We are moving our plant to the heart of Florida's citrus, sugar cane and vegetable farmlands. We will be neighbors in this dominant market area," says Robert Howard, Jr., president and CEO. "Highlands County is welcoming us with open arms, and we couldn't be more pleased to join the community." The new plant location will offer better service through its close proximity to many current and potential customers and a state-of-the-art, automated-blending, production facility. Operations are expected to begin in September 2012. The current Orlando plant will close. The company's turf and ornamental plant in Groveland, Fla. will continue operations, and Howard's corporate headquarters will remain in Orlando. |
