OGA recognizes co-Superintendents of the Year

Tetherow GC's Chris Condon and Reams G&CC Richard Flink receive top accolade

At its recently held annual meeting, the Oregon Golf Association (OGA) recognized Chris Condon of Tetherow Golf Club in Bend, Ore. and Richard Flink of Reames Golf & CC in Klamath Falls, Ore. as Co-Superintendents of Year.

Each year, OGA Directors – the representatives of all regular OGA Member Clubs – get together to review the business of the Golf Association. Directors from more than 70 member clubs along with OGA invited guests gathered this year for a business meeting followed by an awards brunch and concluded with an afternoon of golf.

Condon has been with Tetherow since before it opened and was instrumental in having Tetherow certified as an Audubon Sanctuary and the course has remained highly ranked nationally since it opened. Additionally, it’s hosted both an OGA & PNGA Mid-Amateur Championship in that time as well.

Flink’s unwavering dedication to Reames Golf & Country Club have made for a golf course that’s second-to-none and consistently said by members to be the best maintained in Klamath County. He’s done more with less over the past five years as the economic downturn has hit Klamath County particularly hard. Members say he’s a “hands on Superintendent” routinely up to his knees in a hand-dug trench fixing irrigation systems.

Both Condon & Flink thanked their staffs first and foremost for the success their courses have had.

OGA Business Meeting
The focus of this year's business meeting included an overview of the OGA's current year achievements, allied association updates including PNGA, Evans Scholar Foundation and a focus on a renewed direction for the OGA that includes strategic planning and partnership development. The Directors also voted on two bylaws changes that would see OGA Directors also become PNGA Directors and a two dollar per member dues increase.

"This year’s theme spoke to our ongoing efforts to really focus on the future of the Association and the vision we have to best serve our members and our communities through golf," said Oregon Golf Association CEO Barb Trammell. "It's important that we continue to scrutinize what it is we do and to look at how we can do things better to grow and thrive as an organization."
