GCSAA chief executive position overview released

Interviews for vacancy slated for January 2011.

GCSAA President James R. Fitzroy, CGCS, announced today further details regarding the association's vacant chief executive officer position.

Working in concert with executive search consultants Tryon and Heideman, LLC, the GCSAA Board of Directors has created a position description outlining the background of the association, the required and preferred qualifications for the candidates, and contact information for those interested in the position. In addition, the board has targeted January 2011 as the interview period for candidates.

"We have taken a thoughtful and thorough approach during this process," Fitzroy said. "We reached out to more than three dozen individuals representing all aspects of the golf industry to give us feedback on what they see as key qualifications, characteristics and traits of a CEO. While none of the feedback was surprising, the additional insight was valuable."

Fitzroy indicated that as is the case with all executive searches, it is the input from others that is vital to identifying qualified candidates.

"We know that many leadership positions in the business world are not filled through the normal application process, but through the nomination of individuals by others," Fitzroy said. "That is why we are contacting numerous people to see if they might have contact suggestions for us. Furthermore, if anyone wants to submit a name for consideration, they should contact Tryon and Heideman."

Although the announcement formally begins the applications process, Fitzroy indicated the position has already garnered significant interest. He said the feedback is quite clear that GCSAA is a well respected organization and its members play a vital role in the golf industry.

Those interested in the position or wishing to offer contact information for potential candidates should contact Katey Tryon or Mary Heideman at 816-822-1976 or at gcsaa@tryonheideman.com.
