It was a beautiful day to hit the links, but it wasn't the weather that brought a crowd to a northern Lancaster County (Pa.) golf course Tuesday.
Emergency responders descended on Hawk Valley Golf Course, at 1309 Crestview Drive, Denver, shortly after 10 a.m. when a vehicle was discovered submerged in a pond on the property.
The uncertainty of what exactly lay beneath the surface drew the response of fire rescue units from Bowmansville, Ephrata and New Holland.
"Our first thought was, 'Is there a body in it?'" said Hawk Valley owner Jim Fricke, whose son discovered the vehicle. "At that point we had no idea what the circumstances might be, how it got there, etc."
There was no body in the vehicle, but Fricke said state police who responded to the scene told him they had determined the sport-utility vehicle had been stolen Sept. 13 from a residence about a block from the course.
