Is Facebook a valid vehicle for superintendents to receive information about turf management?
Dr. Larry Stowell, Director of PACE Turf, doesn’t know the answer. But he’s willing to give away an iPad 2 to find out. PACE Turf, a membership organization, has maintained a Facebook presence for the last year by providing turf information, photos and videos. Yet Dr. Stowell is unsure if PACE Turf should continue to provide resources to a Facebook page, so he established a giveaway that asks superintendents to “Like” PACE Turf if you like receiving information in that format online.
“Is the iPad 2 giveaway a bribe to tell me how you want your information? It sure is,” Dr. Stowell said. “But I think it’s an interesting social experiment, as well. How much do you, as superintendents, value Facebook?”
To participate, if you are a member of Facebook, simply visit the PACE Turf page at www.facebook.com/paceturf and “Like” the page (click on the thumb up icon at the top of the page). If you are not a member of Facebook, sign up. Registration is free. Once registered, you can visit the PACE Turf page and “Like” it. Current PACE Turf members are automatically entered into the drawing for the iPad 2, even if they are not Facebook users. However, if PACE Turf members “Like” the PACE Turf Facebook page, they double their chances of winning.
