| (vcstar.com) Former River Ridge Golf Course head professional Marc Sipes did a lot of great things during his tenure, but hiring Jason Lapworth probably ranks at the top of the list. Lapworth, who is currently the superintendent for River Ridge's Victoria Lakes course, went looking for a job when he turned 16 and decided to apply at River Ridge because his best friend worked there. Every day after school, the Oxnard High freshman marched into the pro shop and filled out an application. Sipes told the teen he had a large stack of papers on his desk, the majority of which were applications from him. Sipes then hired him to change help the course convert customers golf shoes from metal spikes to soft ones. "As the time went on, less people needed to have spikes changed, so when work was slow, I decided to help the cleaning staff by cleaning the bathrooms and the tables," Lapworth said. "Those days I wasn't making much money, but I had the attitude that no matter how much you make, you are at work to do as much work as possible. I though that if quality and quantity mesh then good things will happen for you and for customers." Lapworth's work ethic earned him the chance to work picking up golf balls at the driving range, which he did with the same type of zeal. From there he was promoted to be a cart attendant.
