Tuscawilla Country Club, northeast Orlando’s premier family-oriented private facility, announces that it is currently re-grassing all of the greens on its 18-hole, Joe Lee designed championship golf course. The mature, tree-lined track will soon boast greens covered with Champion Ultradwarf Bermuda grass, the preferred putting surface of some of the finest golf courses in the southern United States. Tuscawilla is slated to unveil the new greens to its membership this July.
The greens revitalization effort is the latest upgrade initiated by RDC Golf Group, Inc., since assuming ownership of the club in 2000. RDC recently added a ninth tennis court to accommodate its thriving tennis membership; renovated the club’s grill room; opened a state-of-the-art fitness center; and remodeled the banquet room in the club’s picturesque southern style clubhouse. In preparation for the greens project, RDC purchased an entirely new fleet of maintenance equipment to groom the new greens.
“The greens project is yet another example of why we feel Tuscawilla is the best private club membership value in Central Florida,” said RDC Chief Executive Officer Christopher Schiavone. “RDC has always seen Tuscawilla as a great property, and the investments we have made have been reciprocated by a loyal and enthusiastic membership.”
Tuscawilla’s Head Golf Course Superintendent Jay Snell worked in conjunction with RDC Corporate Superintendent Tom Saunders to select the grass best suited to the club’s existing soil.
Says Saunders, “Champion Ultradwarf has received rave reviews, and many consider it to be the closest thing to bentgrass that you will find in the South. It has shown to provide superior putting surfaces and in fact, The Atlanta Athletic Club, site of the 2011 PGA Championship, recently planted Champion on its greens in preparation to host the world’s best players.”
In addition to Tuscawilla Country Club, RDC owns and/or manages four other golf clubs along the East Coast. The RDC owned Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Township, N.J., boasts the renowned Banks Course, named one of the Top 50 golf courses in the New York tri-state area by The Met Golfer. RDC also manages Tallgrass Country Club, named No. 8 on the 2010 list of “Best Courses You Can Play” in N.Y., by Golfweek.
“RDC and our staff are committed to give our members the very best that is available,” said Tuscawilla General Manager Bill Shiles.
