At a time when conventional wisdom dictates keeping business expenses to a minimum, I was pleasantly surprised to receive the invitation to attend a corporate event hosted by Bayer down at a nice resort in Florida a few weeks ago. Then I looked further at the agenda: the purpose of the meeting was to get feedback from the academic/research community on Bayer’s T&O herbicides and to collect even more data on the company’s soon-to-be-labeled Specticle herbicide. Hey, I could justify a trip to Key Largo for that!
Thus, I grabbed my fishing gear, a pair of swim trunks and a notepad and got ready to jump on a plane. But, at the last minute, I had an idea: since there would be so much brainpower at the event, why not take along a video camera and find out what the Ph.D.’s were thinking about. Specifically, we talked about changes in the research funding world, how turf and ornamental education is evolving and the collaborative efforts it takes to work with companies to bring new products to market.
So, here’s the first of four video reports from the Bayer Warm-Season Weed Symposium. Look for a new one each week on golfcourseindustry.com and our sister sites in the GIE Media Horticulture Group. Enjoy!
