The Oregon Golf Course Superintendents Association is pleased to announce the publication of the OGCSA ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP GUIDELINES, 2nd EDITION.
This is an updated edition to the popular 1st edition, which was initiated by the late Dr. Michael Hindahl, whose passion for golf and the environment led the Oregon GCSA to write the 1st edition. Assisting in writing the 2nd edition, EnviroLogic Resources Inc., was retained to help express the commitment to the environment that all golf course superintendents share.
"EnviroLogic Resources Inc., picked up where Dr. Hindahl left off," said Phil Lagao, CGCS, (certified golf course superintendent) and president of the OGCSA and superintendent at Black Butte Ranch. "To support the 2nd edition guidelines, EnviroLogic Resources Inc., developed www.GreenGolf.com, a web based set of tools that help golf course superintendents create operational and environmental stewardship documentation for golf courses."
Golf course properties traditionally provide a haven for wildlife, both in urban and rural areas and one of the main goals of this 2nd edition is to characterize the local watershed and develop and document the ways the golf course can and does improve overall watershed function. The Oregon Golf Course Superintendents Association has long been a leader in the golf environmental movement, in 2004, winning the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America President's Award for environmental stewardship, as well as having many superintendents win individual awards.
The 2nd edition guidelines are available for download at www.ogcsa.org.
