World Golf Hall of Fame member Tom Watson has been named the 2010 Ambassador of Golf by Northern Ohio Golf Charities, World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational Executive Director Don Padgett announced on Tuesday.
Watson will be honored on Aug. 4 at Firestone Country Club in Akron in conjunction with the Bridgestone Invitational.
The Ambassador of Golf Award is presented annually to a person or persons who have fostered the ideals of the sport on an international level and whose concern for others extends beyond the golf course. Watson has won eight major championships and nearly won the British Open last year, losing in a playoff to Stewart Cink.
