Agriguard Company LLC today announced that Multiguard Protect, a natural contact nematicide known for its nematode control in established turf, now has an expanded-use label approved for terrestrial (outdoor) non-food use to control harmful nematodes on field-grown plants and ornamentals.
“The new labeling extends use of MultiGuard Protect to plants and ornamentals and immature (non-bearing) fruit trees and vines, cut flower production and production nurseries,” said Jonathan Myers, Vice-President, Agriguard. “MultiGuard Protect also provides nematode control in established turf on golf course tees and greens, practice greens, athletic fields, turf and sod farms, and for spot treatment on fairways and roughs.”
MultiGuard Protect offers turf and ornamental professionals a non-phytotoxic way to control nematodes and promotes a healthy root system. Its lower toxicity, safer handling and unrestricted use minimize handling or playtime restrictions.
MultiGuard Protect controls root-infesting, plant-parasitic nematodes and suppresses fungal plant diseases, such as species of Pythium, Phytophthora, Fusarium and Rhizoctonia, stimulating overall aesthetic improvement and increasing root depth by up to four inches on the affected turf without harming turf.
Nematodes can be found in different regions across North America and may cause significant wilting and root damage. MultiGuard Protect increases nutrient and water uptake while stimulating the growth of beneficial organisms in the soil. MultiGuard Protect’s natural composition allows it to be reapplied up to six times per year on turf and eight times per year on ornamentals.
MultiGuard Protect was introduced to the US market in 2011 and is currently registered for use in 25 states and Puerto Rico. For more information about MultiGuard Protect, visit www.MultiGuardProtect.com.
