The LPGA Tour has selected Thor Guard, the leader in lightning prediction and weather warning systems, to provide meteorological support for tour events.
Thor Guard begins its support of the LPGA Tour at the Kia Classic Presented by J Golf, this week at La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
Thor Guard meteorologists use atmospheric electrostatic analysis technology to monitor local radar and provide timely weather alerts. At LPGA Tour events, Thor Guard will provide daily forecasts for event management and advise tournament officials of weather conditions that could interrupt play and pose safety concerns.
“Accurate and reliable weather information is critical to the safety of our players and fans, as well as for the efficient management of our tour events,” said Jane Geddes, senior vice president of Tournament Operations and Player Services for the LPGA Tour. “We’re confident that Thor Guard will provide us with the most timely and accurate information available to help us protect everyone on the course and make the best decisions possible when it comes to managing the event.”
The LPGA Tour will utilize two of Thor Guard’s proprietary products: the Thor Guard Lightning Prediction system, which evaluates the dynamics of electrical energy within the atmosphere to warn of potential strikes; and Thor Guard Weather, which delivers broadcast-quality local, regional and national radar images via the Internet in five-minute increments.
“The LPGA has a reputation as one of the country’s most safety-conscious organizations, and we are pleased once again to partner with them to provide this added degree of protection to their players and fans,” said Robert Dugan, president of Sunrise, Fla.-based Thor Guard.
