Running for Glo

There is something truly remarkable about the turf industry and it’s the closeness of those of us who work in it. GCI's Bill Brown talks about committing 13.1 miles of support.

There is something truly remarkable about the turf industry and it’s the closeness of those of us who work in it. We are more than a bunch of people who share the same profession, we are a community, a band of brothers.

We see proof of that everyday but most recently we saw how tight knit the turf community really is. I’m referring to Jason VanBuskirk and his wife, Gloria. When Gloria got sick there were words of encouragement and prayers for Jason and his family. The #PrayforGlo hashtag was born.

The Wee One Foundation stepped in to help with what are sure to be massive medical bills and members of the turf community from across the globe donated to Gloria’s fund.

This past weekend members of the turf community took it a step further and joined Jason for a half marathon in Ashland, Mass. Thirteen-point-one grueling miles as a show of support to our friend and brother. Along with Jason and his friends and family members, Greg Cormier, CGCS, from Nashawtuc CC, Ed Downing from New England Specialty Soils, myself and my wife Mychal Brown, founding member of Wives of Turf, showed our support for Gloria and her fight as a team.
