Christopher S. Gray, Sr., Golf Course Superintendent at Marvel Golf Club in Benton, Kentucky, has been selected to receive an Earth Day Award by the State of Kentucky’s Environmental Quality Commission (EQC).  Gray is being recognized for his outstanding service, dedication and commitment to protecting Kentucky’s environment.  His selection also marks the first time, in the history of the awards, in which the golf course industry is being recognized for it’s environmental contributions.

“I’m really honored being selected by the Environmental Quality Commission for this award,” says Gray.  “I am also really excited that golf courses are correctly being seen as positive stewards of the environment; nothing could make me happier than that.”

This award adds to Gray’s collection of environmental accolades earned throughout his career of golf course management.  He is currently the only two-time National Public Course and Overal Winner of GCSAA/Golf Digest’s Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards, winning in 2003 and 2007.  In 2008, he was named the National Winner of Rain Bird’s Intelligent Use of Water Award and presented a check for $10,000 to continue his work with water conservation programs.  Gray is also a Contributing Editor for Golfdom Magazine, where writes feature articles and pens “Gray Matters”, a column dealing with environmental issues in the golf course industry.
