Day one of this year's incarnation of the big show was a mixed bag. Here we're some of the highlights and lowlights...
Traffic on the show floor was decent - some exhibitors were happy and some were decidedly not. If your booth was on the center of the floor around one of the Big Three Iron booths, it was a fine day. On the outskirts, not so much. I think there was less exploration going on by attendees and more visits to key suppliers, thus weaker business around the edges.
Attendance wasn't helped by the clog at registration which had potential show-goers stuck in a line that damn near snaked out the door of the LVCC. I asked several folks who had been stuck in the line for more than an hour what their thoughts were. Decency doesn't allow me to print their quotes here.
Our big news - the launch of GCI International into the growing Asian golf market - drew positive reviews, particularly from attendees from the region who desperately need information and key suppliers who are looking to expand their footprint there. Now we need sponsors and content! Call if you can provide either!
A small but hardy crowd of happy turf geeks joined us for the GCI TweetUp at day's end. I got to use a bullhorn (which was cool) and we recognized the best social media savvy supers from around the country. Check out @gcimagazine on Twitter for all the nerdy details.
Best of all, I got to see a million friends and make a bunch of new ones today. That is what this event is really about.
