A full day of turf management education will take place at the 12th Annual PACE Turf Research Seminar to be held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, April 1, at the Catamaran Resort and Hotel in San Diego. Six California CEUs and 0.70 GCSAA education points have been applied for. Online registration is available at www.paceturf.org or by calling 858-272-9897. Registration for the meeting is $165 if reserved prior to March 26, 2013. Registration at the door is $195.
This year’s seminar will highlight and demonstrate some of the more exciting and fun new tools – including aerial drones – that are available for documenting, identifying and improving turf management programs. The talks will also feature the most current research on diseases, weeds, insects, soils and water management, and as always will provide attendees with practical guidelines for translating research into practice.
But in a departure from most educational meetings, the PACE Turf seminar will delve into the highly personal, but also terribly important subject of the psychological impact that frequent criticism can have on turf managers. To provide attendees with coping skills to help them deal with this difficult side of the job, PACE Turf has been able to enlist the esteemed psychologist Dr. Rich Hycner to speak to the group on the topic “How to stay ‘grounded’: the emotional toll of greenskeeping”.
In addition to Dr. Hycner, Drs. Wendy Gelernter and Larry Stowell of PACE Turf are featured speakers, along with five additional guest presenters: Dr. John Kaminiski of Pennsylvania State University; Craig Kessler, the Director of Governmental Affairs for SCGA; Tyler Mock, of UC Riverside; Jeff Jensen, the GCSAA’s regional representative and Bruce Williams of the California Turfgrass and Landscape Foundation.
Registration fees include educational materials, parking, continental breakfast, lunch and coffee breaks.
Approximately 125 golf course superintendents and turf managers regularly attend the all-day seminar.
