With the worldwide celebrations of Earth Day on April 22, it’s clear that environmental responsibility and sustainability are more important than ever. That goes for golf as well.
Increasingly, course superintendents are making their courses greener, and not just in the color of the grass. Leading the way are those at the 663 courses in the U.S. that Audubon International has c ertified as either Cooperative or Signature Sanctuaries. These green spaces, which represent just four percent of all courses in the U.S., have been recognized for their practices, which include limited pesticide use, enhanced wildlife habitats and initiatives like solar-powered carts and geothermal clubhouses.
