Legendary golfer Billy Casper received the Award of Merit from the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) at its Annual Conference last week in Casper’s hometown of San Diego.
The Masters and two-time U.S. Open champion with 51 PGA TOUR victories was recognized by NGCOA for his long-term and significant contributions to the game of golf.
“I’m humbled by this honor,” says Casper, a member of the PGA and World Golf Hall of Fame. “I tried to play the game, grow the game and live my life the right way; therefore, recognition from a leading organization like the NGCOA is incredibly rewarding.”
Among the many “giving back” contributions cited by the NGCOA is Casper’s considerable charitable work during and after his competitive playing days. Through and outside golf, he has worked extensively with Big Brothers / Big Sisters, Junior Achievement, The First Tee and his own Billy’s Kids Foundation.
The NGCOA Award of Merit follows the PGA of America presenting Casper with its Distinguished Service Award in 2010.
The NGCOA Annual Conference is the golf industry’s largest gathering of owners and operators of daily-fee, private, resort and municipal courses. The conference offers educational and networking opportunities and guest speakers from all facets of the golf business.
