GCI columnist Dennis Lyon's rehbilitation is going better than originally anticipated, according to this family.
Dennis was struck by a truck while walking his dog, Putter, Dec. 20. The driver of the truck stopped and called 911, while his faithful pooch ran home, alerting Dennis’s family. He sustained injury to his left leg, pelvis, back and head and was taken to the University of Colorado Hospital.
His son, Corey, reports to GCI: "He is doing well. He was transferred to Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital on January 19th to begin his rehab. When he got there, the therapist were estimating a 6-week stay. He did so well with his rehab, they are planning on sending him home later this week (Feb. 9th or 10th) to complete his rehab at home (3 weeks early).
"He is still non-weight bearing on his left leg due to his pelvic fracture and won't be able to bear weight for another 4 to 6 weeks. However, he is doing well moving around using a hemi-walker. He still can't use his left arm due to his humerus fracture and surgery, but hoping to start rehabing that more soon, as well."
His son, Corey Lyon, has been journaling Dennis’s recovery online at www.caringbridge.org/visit/Dennislyon1.
