Today, turf students will do battle for the right to call themselves the GCSAA Collegiate Turf Bowl champions.
Wednesday night, more than 300 turf management students from more than 35 universities and colleges gathered for a welcome reception at the 2013 Golf Industry Show.
Casey Sheehy, a member of the 2012 reigning champs from Iowa State, said their classes have helped them prepare for today's competition. The event kicks off today at 8 a.m. and will test participants on their agronomic skills, turf care knowledge, leadership, and ability to think on their feet.
The winning team receives $4,000 cash, along with bragging rights and the trophy. New this year, the winning team also gets the chance to volunteer at TPC Sawgrass and learn how to prepare for a PGA tournament. Following the competition is the award ceremony at 5:30.
