Richmond, Va. – Furmanite, a technical and engineering services company based in Houston, completed a comprehensive concrete restoration and repair project at Jefferson Lakeside Country Club. Furmanite’s concrete restoration and specialty coatings, valve repair and motor operated valve installation were successful in all phases of repair to the course’s dam, which more than 100 years old.

Jefferson Lakeside’s golf course has a unique feature – the ability to play golf even after torrential rains. This is possible because of a structured dam with a 17-mile drainage area built in the 1800s. The dam is critical to preventing major flooding, which could cause millions of dollars in damage.

Because of natural decomposition and damage caused by hurricanes, flooding and tornadoes, the structure failed and underwent unsuccessful repair attempts.
Furmanite’s engineers and technicians repaired the downstream and upstream wall, filled the void in the dam, repaired the top cap, replaced a 40-year-old sluice gate valve, stopped water leaks with multiple urethane injections, and the reconstructed and extended a bank retaining wall.

The restored dam withstood a rainstorm that dumped 14 inches of rain in six hours during a hurricane in 2004. To read the comprehensive Jefferson Lakeside case study and technical details, visit www.furmanite.com.
