Fry/Straka takes next step on United Arab Emirates project

Construction at Yas Acres Golf Course will intensify throughout 2017.

Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design has completed the construction drawings, details, and specifications for the Yas Acres Golf Course project in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The project goes out to bid this month, with earthwork beginning in earnest early 2017. Detailed golf course construction will start in the second quarter of 2017. The projected opening of this highly anticipated project is expected to follow soon after the first phase of Yas Acres villas are handed over in early 2020.

Slated to be built and opened concurrently with the clubhouse, the nine-hole course and practice amenities are intended to serve as the centerpiece of the development and will span 130 acres. While the golf course is bordered by a main highway and new residences, it will be a core golf course that will provide spectacular views from all angles.

A major design element will be the creation of a low, meandering ridgeline through the center of the course. In addition, a recirculating lake and stream system will flow throughout the entire course.  With native desert plants and vegetation to cover a major portion of the ridgeline as well as the outlying areas up to the housing, the turfgrass featured on the golf holes will, in turn, provide a great visual effect.

The golf course is designed to reflect a premier quality that will match the other world class amenities on the island while also providing a family oriented and player friendly atmosphere. With very few forced carries, players of all skills levels will be able to enjoy a memorable and unique golfing experience.

“We are thrilled that Aldar has given us the canvas to create a course unlike any other in the UAE,” Fry/Straka’s Dana Fry said.  The desert /oasis style golf course will be both visually stunning and fun to play for golfers of all skill level.

“With the incorporation of a housing development that does not impact the course and provides bordering homes very dramatic views, we feel this course will become a great addition to the U.A.E. golf scene and another great amenity on Yas Island.”
