Renovation of the Hualālai Golf Course, the first Jack Nicklaus Signature Course on Hawai’i Island, is complete at the five-star, five-diamond Four Seasons Resort Hualālai. Known for its 17th hole that “touches the ocean,” the course debuts with reshaped greens and bunkers, and new Platinum Paspalum turf, enhancing the year-round playing conditions.
“Hualālai Resort is known as one of the most highly-regarded golf resorts in the world, and the team continues to reinvest in the enhancement of the experience for our owners and guests,” said Brendan Moynahan, Four Seasons Resort Hualālai’s director of golf. “This renovation amplifies the original beauty of the course Jack Nicklaus designed, producing a more superior experience for players.”
The team worked closely with Nicklaus on the course’s first major renovation since it was completed 25 years ago. The par-72 layout weaves through the Big Island’s challenging lavascape, a unique juxtaposition of striking black lava rock, ocean views and shoreline vistas. The new turf transforms both the playability and appearance. Original contours have also been enhanced to provide more dimension to the greens.
The renovation will make its professional debut at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship, Jan. 19-23. Hualālai Resort has played host to the annual event since 1997.
Complementing the renovation to the golf course, Hualālai recently announced an addition to its Hualālai Golf Hale golf program. The 3,000 square-foot instruction and practice facility provides state-of-the-art technology and expert instruction, including the TrackMan suite of products.
The resort also features the Ke’olu Course, a private 18-hole Tom Weiskopf-designed course, exclusive for Hualālai Club members. There are also two practice facilities, including a short game practice area at both courses, three putting greens with two at the Ke’olu course and two teaching pros on staff at each course.
