Empire State show offers credits

The Empire State Green Industry Show, which will take place at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center on November 15 through 17, will offer 2.05 GCSAA education points.

Rochester, N.Y. – The Empire State Green Industry Show, which includes program offerings from the New York State Turfgrass Association, New York State Nursery/Landscape Association, New York State Arborists – ISA Chapter, and New York State Flower Industries, will offer 2.05 GCSAA education points.

This year’s event, which will take place at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center on November 15 through 17, is expected to draw 2,500 attendees and 340 exhibitor booths. A conference pass costs $100 and includes a three-day entrance into the education sessions and trade show with lunch on both Wednesday and Thursday.  

Session topics include sports turf, golf turf, entomology, arboriculture, nursery and landscape, turfgrass, floriculture, lawn and landscape, soils, pesticide education, school IPM, aquatics and regulatory updates. Other events scheduled for this year’s show include a Job fair, turf bowl, Certified Nursery Professional exam, SUNY Cobleskill alumni reunion dinner, and New York State Arborist – ISA Chapter annual live auction and awards dinner.

Key speakers include Lynette Stark, deputy commissioner with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Stark will present the results and recommendations from the New York State Invasive Species Task Force report to the governor and legislature along with a DEC update.

James Baird, Ph.D., Agronomist with the United States Golf Association, Green Section, will present highlights of the 2005 northeast golf season and address the challenges facing golf course superintendents.

Jeanne Svob, product manager with S&G Flowers/Syngenta Seeds, will explain the All America Selections award process for plants with superior garden performance.

Neil Hendrickson, Ph.D., northeast technical representative with Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories, will cover the basics of mature tree pruning and pruning standards including recent research on wind resistance and pruning type. He also will introduce the International Tree Failure Database, a new program by the U.S. Forest Service and the International Society of Arboriculture.
