DTN/Meteorlogix, a business information services company focused on agricultural, energy and environmental business markets, has been named the official weather services provider for the Florida State Golf Association (FSGA). The FSGA will employ MxVision WeatherSentry Online Turf Edition Professional Package for critical, real-time weather and lightning information to ensure player safety and manage golf events.
The FSGA is the most active association in the country when it comes to hosting tournaments and qualifying rounds for national competitions. Being located in the lightning capital of the world, the organization’s main concern is keeping fans and players out of harm’s way. The FSGA relies on DTN Lightning Manager, which delivers real-time lightning strike information, providing a concise picture of anticipated lightning activity at its events. Lightning Manager allows personnel to set an alert radius of up to 30-miles and monitor lightning strikes as they occur, including early warning and all-clear lightning alerts for added safety. The FSGA can access critical weather information, including real-time lightning strikes and alerts, either online or via their cell phone when on the course.
“Attendance at our golf events can range from 200 golfers and parents at a junior event, to 2,000 players and spectators at a state open,” said Jim Demick, executive director, FSGA. “Having the most accurate real-time lightning information available is critical to keeping these individuals safe.”
The ability to simultaneously monitor weather conditions for multiple locations is critical to the FSGA, as it quite often hosts multiple tournaments across the state at the same time. Leading up to each event, it monitors weather patterns for each event site to prepare for incoming weather. On site, tournament officials rely on mobile alerting to mitigate weather risk.
