Downingtown Country Club names John Mizikar superintendent

Industry veteran with 28 years of experience takes talent to Pennsylvania course.

Downingtown Country Club, a Ron Jaworski Golf property in Pennsylvania, has named John Mizikar golf course superintendent. Mizikar is a 28-year golf course industry veteran with a record of achievement in turf grass management and golf course maintenance.

Mizikar comes to Downingtown from Delaware Park Racetrack & Casino in Wilmington, Del., where he was director of grounds for White Clay Creek Country Club and Delaware Park Racetrack. Prior to that, he served as golf course manager for DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, where he oversaw golf course maintenance for the 54-hole facility. Earlier in his career, Mizikar was the head golf course superintendent at Doylestown Country Club in Pennsylvania and at the Wilmington Country Club South Course in Delaware.

“We are very pleased to have John join our team at Downingtown Country Club,” Jaworski said. “His experience and expertise will be valuable assets for our club, and will further enhance the golfing experience for our members and daily fee guests at Downingtown.”

Mizikar is a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and is a certified golf course superintendent. He is a graduate of the Penn State University Turfgrass Management Program.

Located in Chester County, Downingtown Country Club's layout reflects many of the great features of classic Philadelphia-area golf courses. With subtle greens, strategically placed bunkers and gently rolling fairways, the scenic course is a straightforward, fair test of golf, sure to please players of all ability levels from beginner to expert.

The 6,619 yard, par-72 golf course was designed by George Fazio and was built between 1965 and 1967.  Fazio, the uncle of renowned modern course architect Tom Fazio, was a runner-up to Ben Hogan in the 1950 U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club, and the touring professional out of Pine Valley Golf Club for a number of years.

Besides the championship-caliber golf course, Downingtown Country Club is also a popular and highly acclaimed venue for weddings, banquets and dining, and has won The Knot Best of Weddings 2016 award and Wedding Wire’s Couples Choice 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 awards.

A venue accommodating up to 300 guests suits both social and corporate events. The club’s Seven Tap-Tavern restaurant features pub style fare and hosts live entertainment on Friday nights. The tavern is also home to holiday special events.
