Douglas Plant Health names new CEO

Industry leader Mick Messman tapped to head biotechnology innovator.

Agriculture industry executive Mick Messman is the new CEO of Douglas Plant Health, which provides nature-based biotechnology, soil fertility and other agronomic solutions for growers of row crops, fruits and vegetables, and turf and ornamental crops.

“Mick is the clear choice to lead this innovative business as we work to expand growers’ options beyond traditional agronomic tools,” Douglas Products CEO Wes Long said. “His deep understanding of agriculture and relationships in the industry makes him well suited to growing our business and connecting agricultural producers with our unique solutions. His entrepreneurial approach and forward-thinking will be an excellent asset as we expand the Douglas Plant Health business.”

Messman joins Douglas Plant Health from his most recent role as chief operating officer at Clarke, an environmental services company. He has also held executive roles in leading agribusiness companies including director of seed-applied and biological technologies at Corteva AgriScience, director of U.S. product marketing at DuPont Pioneer and chief commercial officer at GreenLight Biosciences.

“The Douglas Plant Health business is poised for rapid growth and expansion,” said Rik Miller, a Douglas Products board member and former president of DuPont Crop Protection. “Mick’s proven capabilities of building winning teams, planning and executing business growth plans, and creating trusted partnerships with customers will be an outstanding addition to Douglas Plant Health, and the Douglas Products company.”

Messman will lead the growth of the Douglas Plant Health team as they expand their strategic relationships and product offerings in agriculture, turf and ornamental crops.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside Mick and watching him build a global enterprise-level business from scratch,” added Miller. “He’s an exceptionally talented business leader and we’re looking forward to his strong contributions.”

Messman officially joined the Douglas Plant Health team April 12.

“I’m thrilled to be joining this dynamic business as we expand the team and portfolio to offer nature-based solutions to more customers,” Messman said. “Douglas Plant Health has a truly unique product offering and innovates with the sustainability and success of the grower in mind.”
