Doral Golf Resort & Spa, in conjunction with the Jim McLean Golf School, announced that the property will host the annual “Jim McLean Junior Elite Golf School,” from Dec. 27-31, 2006. The holiday golf school serves as an intense week-long instructional program for aspiring junior golfers ages 13-17, with a handicap of 15 or less.
This school, which is structured to prepare junior boys and girls for competition at the national level, offers a curriculum designed to improve all aspects of the golf game, including the long game, short game and mental approach, with an emphasis on course management.
The program offers a combination of driving range and on-course instruction which enables students to practice and play golf more efficiently. It is highlighted by 40 hours of instruction (5:1 Student/Teacher ratio) conducted at the Jim McLean Golf School’s private range and SUPERSTATION, combined with 3 rounds of golf -- including on-course instruction -- on Doral’s stable of Championship courses, including the famed and recently refined Blue Monster.
“The McLean Junior Elite Golf School has been a tremendous success, with an average handicap improvement of 3-6 shots per student,” said Christopher Toulson, director of instruction, Jim McLean Golf School. “Many juniors who have trained at The Jim McLean Golf School have competed successfully on the national level, including Cristie Kerr, Erik Compton, Tyler Leon, Liz Janangelo and James Vargas, among others.”
Tuition for the McLean Junior Elite Golf School, which includes 5 nights of accommodations (double occupancy) on property at Doral is $2,350. Single occupancy rooms are available by request for an additional charge. There is also a local commuter rate of $1,600. Additional benefits include unlimited use of the private practice range, video analysis in the SUPERSTATION, personal video instruction tape, a student workbook containing tips and drills, and breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.
