DeWeese elected to AGCSA board

FarmLinks’ superintendent hopes to help peers

David DeWeese, superintendent at FarmLinks Golf Club, was recently appointed as a new board member of the Alabama Golf Course Superintendent’s Association (AGCSA). DeWeese’s two-year term will include attending monthly meetings to discuss and plan upcoming events as well as serving as a resource for issues and needs of Alabama golf course superintendents. In addition, DeWeese will assist in finding new members for the AGCSA and will help maintain the organization’s Web site.

DeWeese’s interest in joining the AGCSA began a few years prior to his election. His main desire was to have a means of helping his fellow Alabama superintendents, and since he himself manages the world’s only research and demonstration golf course, DeWeese brings a unique element to the organization.

“With the variety of research projects we’re involved with here at FarmLinks, I believe I’ll be able to use some of the data we collect for publication in the journal that goes out to all the members of the AGCSA,” he stated. “I also believe that the unique opportunities I have to meet superintendents through The Experience at FarmLinks will benefit the AGCSA in the future.”

To DeWeese, the AGCSA is invaluable to Alabama’s golf industry and is a “growing tool” from which superintendents will gain a wealth of good but only in proportion to how much they take advantage of it. As well, he is personally aware of how the AGCSA positively affects the state.

“The AGCSA works to raise money throughout the year to present a check to the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation (ATRF),” DeWeese said. “The money that we provide is a tremendous asset, since the ATRF benefits state superintendents (who are largely responsible for furthering the industry) by showing what kind of research is taking place right here in our own state.”

Over the next couple of years, DeWeese is hopeful about becoming more informed on the AGCSA and looks forward to the study and exchange of ideas and solutions in fellowship with his peers.
