The American Society of Landscape Architects awarded its General Design Honor Award to Design Workshop for its design of the Glacier Club golf course in Durango, Colo. This national distinction follows a 2006 Honor Award for the Glacier Club from the Colorado Chapter of ASLA.
The Honor Award recognizes Glacier Club for its green design and engaging golfer experience that is balanced within the terrain of its mountain setting. Innovative storm water management, use of native plants and existing rock formations, and the approach of natural topography as an asset rather than a drawback are among the features that helped establish Glacier Club golfing among the best in the nation.
“Glacier Club addressed all of Design Workshop’s design priorities, including the environmental and economic needs of our client,” said Design Workshop principal and Glacier Club course architect Todd Schoeder. “From analysis to planning, opening, and implementation, this course demonstrates how to keep a light touch on the land and bring an exceptional project around at the same time.”
